Way Dynamic signs to Jagjaguwar and lets the sunshine wobble a little

Way Dynamic is the kind of project that makes retro songwriting feel less like costume drama and more like weather. Melbourne musician Dylan Young has signed to Jagjaguwar, with the label giving Massive Shoe a wider international release and helping push the project toward North American audiences. The appeal is easy to understand: soft-focus guitars, 60s and 70s melodic instincts, a bit of Kinks charm, a little Nick Drake fragility and enough loose edges to stop the whole thing from becoming museum-pop.

In an indie landscape often dominated by either maximal polish or deliberate abrasion, Way Dynamic sits in a more relaxed pocket. The songs sound like they were allowed to breathe before anyone came near them with a marketing plan. That is exactly why they may travel well.
