RedMagic Astra 2 compact gaming tablet gets a June China timeline

RedMagic may not be stopping with phones. The company’s next compact gaming tablet, widely discussed as the Astra 2, is reportedly heading for a June China reveal. Early reports point to a smaller OLED display, a very high refresh rate, flagship Snapdragon-class performance and gaming-focused memory and cooling ambitions. As always with pre-launch tablet reports, the sensible response is excitement with a helmet on. The concept, however, is strong.

Compact Android gaming tablets sit in a useful middle ground between large phones and PC handhelds. They are big enough for better controls and visibility, but still portable enough for mobile games, cloud play and emulation. If RedMagic prices it aggressively and avoids making it too heavy, the Astra 2 could become one of the more interesting Android gaming devices of the summer.
