Anbernic RG557 gets cheaper 8GB models while keeping AMOLED and Dimensity power

Anbernic is making the RG557 easier to justify by adding cheaper versions of the Android retro handheld. The new 8GB RAM and 128GB storage models keep the same core experience, including a Dimensity 8300 chipset, 5.48-inch AMOLED display and 5,500mAh battery, but start at a lower price than the earlier 12GB and 256GB configuration. That matters because the retro handheld market is getting crowded and price sensitivity is real.

Players want enough performance for Android gaming, emulation and streaming, but not everyone wants to pay premium handheld money for a device that might mostly play older games on the sofa. The catch is software. The RG557 still runs Android 14, and long-term update support remains one of the big question marks around many Chinese handhelds. The hardware looks tempting; the ecosystem still needs watching.
