Anbernic RG557 gets cheaper 8GB models while keeping the important gaming bits

Anbernic’s RG557 is becoming more approachable with new 8GB RAM and 128GB storage models. That matters because the retro handheld market is brutally price-sensitive: players want enough power for emulation, Android games and streaming, but not every buyer wants to pay premium-handheld money. The good news is that the cheaper RG557 variants keep the same core experience, including the Dimensity 8300 chipset, 5.48-inch AMOLED display and 5,500mAh battery.

The less exciting bit is that it still runs Android 14, which reminds us again that hardware specs and long-term software confidence are not always best friends in this category. Even so, a lower entry price makes the RG557 easier to recommend for people who want an Android handheld with a proper screen and enough performance headroom for more than just 16-bit nostalgia.
