FIFA World Cup: Launch Edition kicks off tomorrow as a phone-controlled TV football game
Netflix Games and FIFA launch FIFA World Cup: Launch Edition on June 11, using phones as controllers while the TV becomes the stadium.
FIFA World Cup: Launch Edition remains one of the week’s most interesting mobile-adjacent launches because it treats the phone as a controller instead of the main screen. Launching June 11 through Netflix Games, it lets players connect to a TV session by scanning a QR code and then using swipe controls to pass, shoot and play local football matches. The pitch includes all 48 FIFA World Cup 2026 teams, 1,248 players and 16 stadiums. This is not trying to outdo FC Mobile or eFootball at deep squad-building.
It is trying to become a living-room World Cup party game, which is a smart lane during tournament season. The question is whether the simplified phone controls stay fun after the novelty fades. For casual football gatherings, the concept is easy to understand and easy to try.
