SteamOS beta improves Intel handheld compatibility before the new wave lands

Valve’s latest SteamOS beta is quietly important for the next wave of Intel handhelds. The update improves Intel hardware compatibility and adds better support around devices like MSI Claw systems, which matters because Intel handhelds need more than good chips. They need software that does not make Windows the only sensible option. Steam Deck succeeded partly because SteamOS made handheld PC gaming feel coherent instead of like a laptop trapped in a small plastic boat.

If SteamOS continues improving on Intel hardware, upcoming Arc G3 handhelds from MSI, Acer and others become much more interesting. Hardware gets the headlines, but handheld success often depends on the boring magic of drivers, firmware and UI behaving themselves.
