Final Fantasy 7 Ever Crisis will close in October

Final Fantasy 7: Ever Crisis is also preparing to shut down, proving once again that live-service nostalgia can be powerful, profitable and still mortal. Square Enix has confirmed the mobile and Steam versions will close in October.

The game reportedly reached 3.7 million downloads and around $100 million in revenue, which sounds like success until you remember that ongoing service games need momentum, content, whales, retention and a spreadsheet that does not quietly sob at night. For fans, it is another reminder that mobile RPGs can feel permanent right up until they are not. Cloud may have survived many things, but server sunset notices are undefeated.
