Metal Slug Rush turns arcade shooting into survivor chaos

Metal Slug Rush is out on Android and slowly rolling onto iOS, dragging the classic arcade shooter into the modern survivor-like arena. Instead of the usual side-scrolling structure, this version throws players into waves of enemies, power-up gathering and timed survival chaos. It is an obvious genre pivot, but not a stupid one.

The Metal Slug art style still has personality, the animations still carry arcade punch and the formula fits mobile sessions nicely. The surprise is how quietly this one seems to have arrived compared with bigger Metal Slug pushes. If it works, though, it could scratch a very specific itch: retro bullets, modern progression and lots of tiny enemies making poor life choices.
