Compact Android gaming tablets are starting to look like one of 2026’s most interesting hardware lanes. Devices like REDMAGIC’s Astra 2 and Lenovo’s gaming tablets are chasing the iPad Mini sweet spot: bigger than a phone, easier to hold than a full tablet and powerful enough for serious mobile play. The category makes sense because phones are great, but thumbs eventually ask for more screen. Full-size tablets are immersive, but not always comfortable.
A 9-inch gaming slate could be the Goldilocks answer if performance, thermals, battery and pricing line up. The danger is obvious: too expensive and it becomes a luxury toy. Priced right, it becomes a daily gaming machine.
