Destiny: Rising is having a rough time proving that being the only Destiny game in town is enough. MobileGamer.biz’s 14 July analysis argues that even after Destiny 2 entered its end-of-service phase, the NetEase-made mobile spin-off has not pulled over a meaningful wave of players. AppMagic estimates cited in the piece suggest the game has been sitting around roughly $300k per month since March, which is not the kind of number that makes executives fire confetti cannons.
The bigger lesson is painful but familiar: a famous universe can open the door, but it cannot make players accept mobile gacha systems if what they really wanted was the original magic.
