Google and Epic have withdrawn their proposed settlement, clearing the way for the court-ordered Android app distribution changes in the US to move ahead. That means Google Play is set to begin carrying eligible rival app stores from July 22, with US developers’ listings automatically available to eligible third-party stores unless they opt out. Google has also launched a Play Catalogue Access Program with security and policy requirements. For mobile games, this is potentially huge.
Distribution, payment links, alternative stores and store fees are not just legal background noise; they shape how developers reach players and how much money survives the platform tax.
