Sony’s all-digital direction is becoming part of the portable gaming conversation, with GamesRadar arguing that the PlayStation Portal already hints at where things may be going. The concern is not simply that physical discs could disappear; it is that handheld-style devices may increasingly become streaming companions rather than native gaming hardware. That matters for mobile and portable players because ownership, access and offline play are all part of the value equation.

Cloud play can be convenient when everything works. But when internet, subscriptions or servers get in the way, convenience turns fragile. The Portal’s success may encourage more streaming-first thinking, and not everyone will be cheering.
