Final Fantasy XIV Mobile will close in China as global launch is cancelled

Final Fantasy XIV Mobile has gone from long-awaited adaptation to mobile casualty. The China version is shutting down on September 30, new sign-ups and in-app purchases are already stopped, and the global launch has been cancelled. That is a brutal turn for a famous MMORPG brand, but perhaps not shocking given how quiet the project had been. China often acts as a proving ground for mobile versions of major IP, and if it failed to find the right business shape there, a global push likely looked even riskier.
Eorzea remains alive on PC and console, but the phone dream is over.
