Final Fantasy XIV Mobile will close in China as global launch is cancelled

Final Fantasy XIV Mobile has become one of July’s biggest mobile disappointments. The China version is shutting down on September 30, new sign-ups and in-app purchases have stopped, and the planned global launch has been cancelled. For a franchise with this much weight, that is a brutal turn. China often acts as a proving ground for mobile adaptations of major IP, and if the project could not find the right product or business shape there, a worldwide release likely looked too risky.

Eorzea remains alive elsewhere, but the dedicated mobile dream is over.
