Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 hits stores with stronger performance and brighter screen

The Galaxy Z Flip8 officially reaches stores today, August 7, as Samsung updates its compact clamshell foldable for 2026. The phone uses a 6.9-inch 120Hz AMOLED main display and a 4.1-inch cover screen, with the exterior FlexWindow playing a larger role in quick interactions and AI-assisted tasks.

In markets using Qualcomm's configuration, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy delivers a substantial performance increase over the previous generation, making the Flip8 more capable for games as well as everyday apps. Samsung has retained a 4,300mAh battery and 25W wired charging, while rear cameras include a 50MP main sensor and 12MP ultra-wide. The main display is also brighter, with testing measuring around 2,150 nits at peak.

Video features such as Horizontal Lock are intended to take advantage of the folding design for handheld creation. Pricing starts at $1,199 for 256GB, a $100 increase from the previous generation, with a 512GB model priced higher. The Flip8 remains considerably more pocketable than Samsung's Fold devices, but the higher price means buyers are paying flagship-phone money for that convenience.

Its gaming performance is improved, yet battery capacity and charging speed remain more conservative than on many dedicated gaming phones.
