Afterglow is now available on iOS and Android with a post-apocalyptic MMORPG structure designed around character freedom and persistent progression. Instead of locking players permanently into a traditional class at the start, the game develops skills according to how they are used, allowing a survivor's abilities to evolve around the player's preferred activities and equipment.
The world includes combat, exploration, crafting and a player-driven economy, while progression can continue in certain forms even when the user is away from the game. That offline component is particularly important on mobile because it reduces the need to remain connected for long sessions simply to keep pace with other players.
Afterglow's classless approach also encourages experimentation, although it will need strong balancing to prevent a small number of optimal builds from eventually dominating the community. Player-driven economies are similarly ambitious on phones, where bots, inflation and uneven resource distribution can undermine otherwise interesting systems. The launch therefore gives the game plenty of potential but also several complex live-service challenges to manage.
For players who enjoy persistent online worlds yet want more flexibility than fixed warrior, mage or rogue archetypes, Afterglow offers a different route through the familiar mobile MMORPG formula.
