Take That Hill is one of the more unusual new Android releases this week, replacing fantasy armies and exaggerated military spectacle with an attempt to model genuine small-unit infantry tactics. Players command a platoon composed of three sections and a headquarters element while attempting to take a defended hill across exposed terrain. Success depends on fire and manoeuvre rather than simply moving units toward an objective.
Suppression, covering fire and the timing of an assault all matter, while advanced rules add obstacles including minefields, wire, concealed positions, mortar support and difficult low-light operations. The game draws on a military training primer associated with Fight Club International, giving its tactical systems a more serious foundation than most mobile war games. A Paratrooper Raid expansion is included and changes the situation by placing troops behind enemy lines during a night operation.
Take That Hill is sold as a premium Android game rather than being built around energy timers or unit packs. Its $19.99 price immediately places it in a niche category, but players looking for deliberate turn-based strategy may appreciate that approach. An iOS version is planned to follow, broadening the audience after the Android debut.
