Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is now moving through its first full retail week as the company's most expensive mainstream foldable smartphone. Unlike the shorter and wider standard Fold8, the Ultra retains a more conventional book-style shape while opening into an 8-inch internal display. Samsung has positioned it for buyers who want a large multitasking canvas without accepting the unusual closed proportions of the regular Fold8.
The device uses flagship Snapdragon hardware and a 200MP main camera, bringing its imaging specifications closer to Samsung's premium slab phones than previous Fold generations. Pricing starts at approximately $2,099.99 in the United States, placing it in territory where consumers could instead buy a high-end phone and a separate tablet. The Ultra therefore needs to justify itself through convenience: one device that can serve as a normal handset, a reading screen, productivity tool and portable gaming display.
One UI 9 remains an important advantage because Samsung has years of experience optimising split-screen applications for foldables. The device remains niche by conventional smartphone standards, but it also demonstrates how far the foldable category has moved from experimental prototypes toward increasingly differentiated premium products.
