Global consumer spending on mobile games reached approximately $6.6 billion during July 2026, underlining the enormous scale of the sector even as downloads and in-app purchase growth have become more difficult in mature markets. Honor of Kings led player spending during the month, reinforcing Tencent's position at the top of the global mobile revenue rankings.
July's result follows broader data showing that the industry is increasingly dependent on established games with sophisticated live operations, seasonal events and direct-to-consumer programmes. New releases still matter, but keeping an existing audience engaged for years can be more valuable than achieving a short-lived download spike. The $6.6 billion figure also arrives during a period when publishers are paying much closer attention to payment fees, alternative storefronts and web shops.
A small improvement in the percentage of revenue retained by a publisher can become significant when annual consumer spending reaches tens of billions of dollars. For developers, the market remains attractive but extremely competitive: reaching players is expensive, expectations are high and the largest established games continue to command a disproportionate share of spending.
