Pixel Tag could debut tomorrow as Google's first-party answer to AirTag and SmartTag

Google may use tomorrow's Made by Google event to introduce Pixel Tag, a first-party item tracker designed around the Android Find Hub network. Retail leaks have shown a compact tracker carrying a Pixel-branded model number, although Google has not formally announced the product. A first-party tracker would allow the company to control setup, firmware and privacy protections more tightly than it can with third-party Find Hub accessories.

The biggest technical question is whether Pixel Tag will include ultra-wideband support for precision finding or rely primarily on Bluetooth and the crowdsourced Android device network. Anti-stalking protections will also be important because large location networks can create significant safety concerns when trackers are hidden in someone else's belongings. Apple and Samsung have already demonstrated that item trackers become more useful as the surrounding ecosystem grows.

Google controls the world's largest smartphone operating system, giving it the potential to create an extremely broad finding network. If Pixel Tag appears tomorrow, it may receive less attention than the Pixel 11 phones but could become one of Google's most strategically important new accessories.
