Samsung will use the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra as one of the centrepieces of its Gamescom 2026 gaming presentation. The company is positioning the device alongside traditional gaming hardware rather than treating it simply as a productivity phone, reflecting the increasing performance available from flagship mobile processors.
The Fold8 Ultra opens to an approximately eight-inch display, providing a considerably larger canvas for supported Android games than a conventional smartphone while still folding into a portable form. Samsung's One UI software also supports extensive multitasking, although gaming generally benefits most from using the complete internal display. The company will present the phone alongside Odyssey gaming displays and high-performance storage products as part of what it describes as an integrated gaming ecosystem.
The strategy is notable because Gamescom remains primarily associated with PC and console gaming. Samsung clearly believes foldables now have enough performance and display quality to deserve space in that conversation. Price remains the obvious barrier: at more than $2,000, the Fold8 Ultra competes with gaming laptops and premium tablets as well as phones.
