REDMI's newly introduced global REDMI 17 and REDMI 17 5G continue the 2026 trend toward dramatically larger smartphone batteries. Both devices use 7,500mAh cells with 45W wired charging and large 6.9-inch displays capable of refresh rates up to 120Hz. The 5G model is built around Qualcomm's Snapdragon 4 Gen 5, while the 4G edition uses MediaTek's Helio G91-Ultra.
Neither chipset is aimed at flagship gaming, but the enormous battery capacities should make both devices particularly attractive for users who prioritise endurance. Casual games, streaming and navigation can consume substantial power even without a high-end processor. The phones also illustrate how battery technology is changing smartphone design. Capacities that previously would have required extremely thick devices are increasingly appearing in mainstream handsets.
Dedicated mobile gamers will still want faster processors and stronger cooling, but budget buyers can now get battery specifications once associated with specialist gaming models. REDMI's combination of a large display, high refresh rate and long endurance should make the range especially appealing in markets where phones frequently serve as users' primary gaming and entertainment devices.
