HandyGames is now operating under the THQ Nordic Mobile name, formally positioning the studio as the dedicated mobile publishing pipeline for THQ Nordic's catalogue. The rebrand is intended to streamline publishing and accelerate high-end adaptations of established franchises for iOS, Android and future mobile platforms.
HandyGames already had extensive experience developing and publishing smartphone games, but the new identity connects that expertise more directly with THQ Nordic's broader intellectual property portfolio. Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed is an early example of the strategy, with a full premium mobile version arriving in September. Powerful phones and better controller support have changed what publishers can realistically bring to mobile, reducing the need for heavily simplified spin-offs.
The main challenge is interface design. A technically accurate port can still fail if touch controls, text size or session structure feel inappropriate on a phone. Pricing is another question because mobile audiences have historically resisted console-style prices even when the underlying game is comparable. THQ Nordic Mobile has the opportunity to test whether recognisable franchises and complete premium releases can rebuild a stronger market for substantial smartphone games.
The rebrand signals that the company intends mobile to become a more deliberate part of its wider publishing strategy.
