DarkWind's MAJO – Apocalypse Tactics RPG is moving through its first few days on iOS and Android following its August 11 release. The game puts players in command of a squad of witches fighting through a collapsing dark-fantasy world. Tactical positioning and character combinations form the core of combat, while long-term progression revolves around developing a roster with different magical roles.
Launch week is particularly important for a character-collection RPG because players quickly judge whether early rewards are generous, whether progression becomes restrictive and how much active strategy is required. MAJO enters a market packed with anime-styled RPGs, so visual design alone will not be enough to sustain attention. Battles need enough variation to make squad composition genuinely important instead of simply rewarding the highest power rating.
The apocalyptic setting does at least provide a distinctive tone and gives the developers room for unusual enemies and environments. The first post-launch days are also when server stability and device compatibility issues normally become most visible. If DarkWind can respond quickly to feedback and maintain a sensible update schedule, MAJO has an opportunity to carve out a smaller but dedicated tactical-RPG audience on mobile.
