Pixel Watch 5 launches with Gemini Intelligence and new proactive health features

Google has officially introduced Pixel Watch 5, expanding the wearable line with stronger Gemini integration and a broad set of proactive health tools. The watch comes in 41mm and 45mm versions starting at $399 and $429 respectively, with pre-orders open now and retail availability beginning August 20. Google has upgraded processing and GPS while keeping the familiar circular Pixel Watch design. Gemini can operate with lower latency and provide more contextual assistance directly from the wrist.

Health features are receiving even greater emphasis through Google's new Health Guardian platform, which watches for longer-term trends rather than only recording isolated measurements. The watch can track workout routes more accurately and provide AI-assisted training recommendations. Google is also introducing Breathing Emergency Detection, designed to recognise severe respiratory interruptions and initiate emergency actions in supported regions.

Some health features depend on regulatory approvals and should not be treated as replacements for medical diagnosis. Pixel Watch 5 competes directly with Samsung's recently launched Galaxy Watch9 and Watch Ultra2. The increasingly close integration between phone, watch, earbuds and health services shows that Google now sees Pixel as an ecosystem rather than a single smartphone product.
