Samsung will put the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra at the centre of its mobile gaming presence at Gamescom 2026 in Cologne later this month. The company is presenting what it calls a full-stack gaming vision linking smartphones with displays, PCs and high-performance storage. Gamescom runs from August 26 through August 30 and gives Samsung access to an audience normally focused heavily on console and PC games.
The Fold8 Ultra's large internal display and flagship processor make it a natural demonstration device for Android games and cloud gaming. Samsung will also host the PlayGalaxy Cup World Finals, using competitive gaming to connect the Galaxy brand with its broader hardware portfolio. Foldables are particularly interesting for mobile games because their tablet-sized screens provide additional space for complex interfaces, although developers still need to support unusual aspect ratios correctly.
Heat and battery consumption remain challenges during sustained high-end play. Samsung's decision to treat the Fold8 Ultra as gaming hardware rather than only a productivity phone reflects how much mobile performance has improved. The company's Gamescom strategy suggests it expects smartphones to play a more visible role alongside traditional gaming hardware rather than existing as a separate category.
