Discord doubles free-user upload limit to 20MB across mobile and desktop

Discord has increased the maximum file-upload size for free users to 20MB, doubling the previous 10MB limit. The change applies across Discord's supported platforms, including mobile devices, and should make it easier to share screenshots, short gameplay clips, documents and other files without immediately encountering an upgrade prompt.

Twenty megabytes is still modest compared with dedicated cloud-storage services or paid Discord tiers, but the increase is meaningful for smartphone users because modern screenshots and camera images can easily exceed several megabytes each. Gaming communities rely heavily on Discord for sharing builds, bug reports, clips and event information, making upload limits a practical part of the mobile-game ecosystem rather than an unrelated messaging specification.

Larger videos will still require compression, external hosting or a paid subscription. Discord's decision also reflects the steady increase in average file sizes as phone cameras, screen recordings and games move toward higher resolutions. For free users, the new limit reduces one source of friction without changing the basic service model. It is a small update, but one likely to be noticed immediately by anyone regularly moving game-related media between a phone and community servers.
