HONOR's Robot Phone is moving toward its August 18 retail release in China following one of the most unusual smartphone launches of 2026. The device integrates a motorised three-axis gimbal directly into the phone, allowing its 200MP camera to physically extend and rotate for subject tracking, stabilised video and automated framing.
HONOR has worked with ARRI on imaging features including professional colour workflows, reinforcing the phone's focus on content creation rather than treating the mechanism purely as a novelty. The device uses Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, a 6.3-inch LTPO OLED display and a 7,060mAh battery with 120W wired charging. Its moving camera also gives HONOR's YOYO assistant a physical way to react and follow subjects.
The mechanism inevitably creates compromises, including increased weight and more complicated water resistance than a conventional sealed flagship. Pricing begins at RMB 9,999 in China. There is currently no comparable global launch announcement. Even if the Robot Phone remains a niche product, it demonstrates that smartphone manufacturers are still willing to experiment with mechanical hardware rather than treating slabs and conventional foldables as the only possible future.
