HONOR's Robot Phone is scheduled to enter sales in China on August 18, putting one of 2026's strangest smartphones only two days away from consumers. The device's defining feature is a mechanically articulated three-axis camera gimbal that extends from the phone and can physically rotate to follow subjects. HONOR pairs the mechanism with a 200MP camera and an AI stabilisation system designed for smooth video and automatic framing. Collaboration with ARRI adds professional cinema-inspired colour and imaging tools.

Underneath the unusual camera system sits flagship hardware, including Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and a large 7,060mAh battery. The moving mechanism creates inevitable compromises: the phone is heavier than many conventional flagships and cannot rely on the same simple sealed construction as a normal slab device. Even so, Robot Phone is important because it demonstrates that manufacturers are still exploring physical innovation rather than limiting experimentation to folding screens.

The product is currently focused on China, with no comparable international release confirmed. Its commercial success may be less important than whether the motorised camera inspires similar approaches elsewhere.
