Rising memory prices reportedly reshape Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo's 2027 Ultra-phone strategies

The reported cancellation of Xiaomi's next Ultra model may be part of a broader shift among Chinese smartphone manufacturers as memory costs rise. A report published today claims Oppo and Vivo are also reconsidering whether their future Ultra flagships should receive global releases. The successors to the current Find X9 Ultra and Vivo X300 Ultra could remain China-exclusive if component costs make international pricing too difficult.

Neither Oppo nor Vivo has confirmed those plans, so the information remains firmly in leak territory. The underlying economic pressure is nevertheless real across the industry. AI infrastructure demand has contributed to higher DRAM and NAND prices, while flagship phones require increasingly large memory capacities alongside expensive processors and camera systems.

Manufacturers can respond by increasing prices, reducing specifications or concentrating their most elaborate devices in markets where premium models sell more easily. The emergence of more Pro Max branding could therefore become as much an economic decision as a marketing one. For global Android enthusiasts, the risk is straightforward: some of the most ambitious camera hardware may become harder to buy officially outside China during 2027.
