Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold4 and Galaxy Z Flip4 are approaching the end of their major operating-system support window during August 2026. Both foldables originally launched in August 2022 and were covered by Samsung's then-generous commitment to four major Android upgrades and five years of security maintenance. That means major platform updates are effectively reaching their final stage even though security patches continue into 2027.

The distinction matters for owners: the phones do not suddenly become unsafe or unusable this month, but they should not be expected to receive the same future Android-version upgrades as newer Galaxy models. Samsung has since extended support significantly on more recent flagships, highlighting how quickly expectations around smartphone longevity have changed. Foldables make this especially interesting because their hardware was considerably more expensive than ordinary phones when new.

Owners deciding whether to upgrade can now compare four-year-old Fold4 and Flip4 hardware with much lighter, thinner 2026 models. For gaming, continued security support and app compatibility should keep both devices useful for some time, but future platform-specific graphics and AI features will increasingly target newer generations.
