The inaugural Esports Nations Cup has been postponed by a full year, moving from November 2026 to November 2027. The event is still planned for Riyadh and remains designed around national teams rather than the club organisations that dominate much of professional esports. Organisers cited regional uncertainty in making the decision, while saying work with federations, publishers and participating territories will continue.

More than one hundred countries and territories had already received official partner status through the programme, making the postponement significant across multiple competitive games and mobile-esports communities. National-team events have particular potential in mobile esports because games such as Mobile Legends, PUBG Mobile and other smartphone-first titles have enormous audiences in regions that are sometimes less visible in traditional PC competition.

Delaying the tournament gives organisers more preparation time but also means qualification programmes, player planning and federation investment must be sustained over an additional year. Development Fund commitments are expected to continue during the delay. For players, the key point is that the Esports Nations Cup has not been cancelled; the project is being pushed into November 2027 while retaining Riyadh as its planned host city.
