New research commissioned around Clash Royale has produced an amusing but surprisingly revealing picture of player frustration. A survey of 9,000 gamers across seven markets found that 85.1 percent of people who rage quit said they actually enjoyed gaming more once they returned. Mexico recorded the highest figure at 90.5 percent, while Germany was lowest at 74.4 percent.
Wanting to perform well was the most common reason given for rage quitting, followed by caring strongly about the game and trying to protect a winning streak. Brazil had the largest percentage of surveyed gamers who had rage quit at all. Supercell is tying the research directly into Clash Royale's Viking Season and a community campaign searching for the game's first rage emote. Eligible players can submit short clips of their own gaming frustration, with finalists eventually going to a community vote.
The winning audio is scheduled to be announced on August 28 and used for an unlockable in-game emote. It is an unusual marketing campaign, but one that turns one of competitive gaming's least flattering behaviours into a deliberately self-aware community event.
