A new leak claims the upcoming OnePlus 16 will use a custom BOE X4 display capable of operating at up to 165Hz throughout the system rather than restricting the highest refresh rate to selected applications. That would push the phone beyond the 120Hz panels common on most premium smartphones and even beyond the 144Hz displays appearing increasingly often on gaming-oriented models. The device is also rumoured to use an ambitious camera system with a 200MP main sensor, 50MP ultrawide and 50MP periscope telephoto.

OnePlus has not officially confirmed those specifications or a launch date, although current reports point toward an October introduction. A 165Hz screen is most valuable when the underlying processor and games can generate similarly high frame rates. Otherwise, the benefit is largely limited to interface smoothness while increasing power consumption. Display efficiency and thermal management therefore matter as much as the headline number.

OnePlus has historically used high-refresh displays as a major part of its identity, so the rumour fits the company's existing priorities. More reliable information should emerge as the expected launch window approaches.
