Xiaomi launches magnetic Bluetooth speaker that doubles as a smartphone stand

Xiaomi has launched a compact magnetic Bluetooth speaker in China through its Youpin crowdfunding platform. The new Bluetooth Speaker Magnetic Version attaches magnetically to compatible smartphones and can also function as a small stand, combining two common mobile accessories in one device. Standard pricing is set at 199 yuan, roughly $30, while early crowdfunding backers can obtain it at a lower promotional price.

The concept is particularly useful for watching video because the speaker can hold the phone upright while providing larger sound than the device's built-in speakers. Magnetic accessory ecosystems have expanded rapidly since manufacturers began adopting stronger alignment systems for chargers, wallets and stands, and audio is a logical extension. Xiaomi has not announced broad international distribution, so the current launch remains focused on China.

The speaker is unlikely to replace a larger portable Bluetooth model for room-filling audio, but its small size and dual-purpose design make it potentially useful for travel or desks. Mobile gamers could also use the stand for controller-based play, although Bluetooth latency will determine how suitable the speaker is for timing-sensitive games.
