PUBG Mobile Light opens pre-registration on August 25, putting Krafton's lighter battle-royale application only five days away from its next major milestone. The new app is designed to preserve the familiar PUBG Mobile ecosystem while dramatically reducing initial storage requirements. Android installation is expected to start at roughly 1GB and iOS around 2GB, after which players can selectively download maps and additional resources.
That modular approach is significantly different from the older PUBG Mobile Lite, which operated more like a separate reduced game. PUBG Mobile Light is intended to use the same broader account ecosystem, preserve cosmetics and allow users to play with friends on the standard application. Erangel and the core battle-royale experience remain part of the package.
Storage has become one of the biggest accessibility problems facing mature mobile games because years of maps, cosmetics and events can push installations into tens of gigabytes. If Light works as intended, Krafton could provide a blueprint for other long-running games that want to remain accessible on inexpensive 64GB and 128GB smartphones without fragmenting their player communities.
