Pixel Watch 5 goes on sale today but some of its most ambitious health features are still coming

Pixel Watch 5 reaches consumers today starting at $399 for the 41mm version. Google's fifth-generation wearable keeps the familiar domed design but upgrades processing, memory, GPS and software intelligence. Reviews published today praise noticeably stronger GPS accuracy and the ability to perform selected Gemini tasks offline.

Strength Training has also become more sophisticated, while Google is preparing new Health Guardian features designed to identify longer-term trends in areas including blood pressure, sleep breathing and insulin resistance. The complication is timing: several headline health features are not ready at launch and will arrive later through software updates or remain subject to regulatory approval in some regions.

Battery life remains roughly in the same range as the previous model, with reviewers seeing approximately a day and a half depending on case size and usage. Pixel Watch 5 is therefore more evolution than reinvention. It makes the strongest sense for new Android-watch buyers or users on considerably older hardware rather than Watch 4 owners. Today's launch also strengthens Google's increasingly complete Pixel ecosystem around phones, earbuds, trackers and wearables.
