Fairphone Gen 6+ expands repairable smartphones into official US retail

Fairphone's Gen 6+ is now officially available to US buyers, marking a major expansion for the Dutch company best known for modular smartphones and unusually long support commitments. The Gen 6+ upgrades the platform with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 and 12GB of RAM while retaining 256GB of storage, a removable battery and a design where numerous components can be replaced individually.

Fairphone is also promising years of software maintenance and a lengthy warranty, deliberately positioning longevity as the primary selling point rather than annual upgrade pressure. The phone costs more than many devices with similar raw processor performance, but the comparison misses the point of the product: owners can replace batteries, screens, charging ports and other parts rather than discarding the entire handset.

Official US distribution also makes warranty support considerably easier than importing earlier Fairphones. Gaming performance should be adequate for mainstream Android titles but is not the priority. The significance lies in proving that repairability can exist inside a modern smartphone sold through conventional channels rather than remaining purely an enthusiast experiment.
