Motorola has started Android 17 beta testing on selected Edge 50 Ultra devices, extending its new operating-system work beyond the company's latest hardware. The test build also incorporates the August 2026 security patch and gives participating users early access to Android 17 platform changes and Motorola's updated interface.

Beta firmware remains unsuitable for users who need total reliability because banking apps, Bluetooth accessories, battery behaviour or specific functions can still break before a stable release. The rollout is nevertheless significant for owners of an older premium phone. Modern flagship processors remain capable for many years, meaning software support increasingly determines practical lifespan more than raw performance.

Android 17 brings new privacy and system behaviour while manufacturers continue adapting their own AI and customisation features. Motorola has confirmed a broad list of eligible devices across its Razr, Edge and Moto G families, making update speed an important test of the company's improving software policy. Edge 50 Ultra users interested primarily in gaming should generally wait for stable firmware unless they are comfortable troubleshooting potential graphics or performance problems.
