Sony Xperia 10 VIII is scheduled for August 25 as Sony continues its narrow smartphone strategy

Sony is preparing to launch the Xperia 10 VIII on August 25, keeping its mid-range Xperia line alive even as the company occupies a much smaller share of the global smartphone market than it once did. Xperia devices increasingly appeal to a specific audience rather than chasing mass-market volume. Sony tends to retain features and design choices that other manufacturers abandon, while emphasising media consumption, battery efficiency and the company’s broader camera heritage.

The Xperia 10 series sits below Sony’s premium flagships, so price and endurance will be central to the new model’s value proposition. The market around it is unusually aggressive. Chinese manufacturers are introducing enormous batteries, 120Hz or 144Hz OLED displays and increasingly powerful mid-range processors at prices that place pressure on conservative upgrades. Sony therefore needs more than brand loyalty to justify its position.
