Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra has reached full-review territory, and the story is refinement rather than revolution. The new foldable retains the familiar book-style concept but improves several areas that matter during everyday use. Silicon-carbon battery technology allows Samsung to fit a larger 5,000mAh cell into the chassis, charging rises to 45W, and a redesigned hinge helps the phone sit flatter while making the internal crease less obvious.

The inner and outer displays are also brighter, with improved anti-reflective treatment. Samsung maintains a 200-megapixel main camera and upgrades the ultrawide, although reviewers have criticised the continued use of a relatively modest telephoto sensor. The bigger criticism is value. At around ,099, even minor annoyances become difficult to ignore, including camera wobble and the absence of full conventional flagship-level ingress protection.

Samsung still benefits enormously from mature foldable software, trade-in offers and broad retail support, particularly in the United States. But Chinese rivals and Google's Pixel Fold line mean Samsung can no longer assume the Fold name automatically defines the category.
