Ultrapool has arrived on iOS with one of the stranger roguelike pitches of the week: take the escalating modifier-driven progression popularized by Balatro and rebuild it around a pool table. Players start by sinking relatively ordinary shots, but each run gradually introduces balls with increasingly unusual effects and combinations.
Successful shots generate money that can be spent at the bar to expand or improve the player's collection, while increasingly demanding rounds force players to build combinations capable of producing enormous scores. The objective is to survive ten rounds while impressing a series of bartenders and exploiting interactions between specialized balls. It is another sign of how quickly Balatro's design influence has spread beyond card games.
Developers are increasingly borrowing its central idea — familiar rules transformed by stacked modifiers and run-specific builds — rather than copying poker itself. Pool is particularly well suited to touchscreens because aiming and dragging already feel natural on mobile. Ultrapool therefore has a chance to become more than a novelty if its increasingly ridiculous builds maintain the satisfying physical feel of making an improbable trick shot.
