Torchlight: Infinite is preparing another significant seasonal experiment with The Unbound, a mode built around automated skill casting and the threat of losing a run when the character dies. Auto-casting might initially sound like a reduction in interaction, but the design shifts attention toward build construction, positioning and choosing combinations capable of surviving increasingly dangerous encounters.
Permadeath-style consequences then create tension around every decision, turning what could have been passive combat into a high-risk optimization exercise. Torchlight: Infinite has increasingly distinguished itself by experimenting aggressively with seasonal mechanics rather than preserving a fixed action-RPG formula. That approach mirrors the strongest PC live-service ARPGs, where every season becomes an opportunity to temporarily rewrite fundamental rules.
Mobile players benefit because a new mechanic can significantly change the feel of a familiar character without requiring an entirely new campaign. The challenge will be balance. If automation solves too much of the combat, The Unbound could become an equipment spreadsheet; if enemy pressure remains high enough, however, it could produce some of the game's most unusual builds.
