GrapheneOS expands beyond Pixel with future Motorola flagship and foldable support

Privacy-focused Android project GrapheneOS is preparing a major expansion beyond Google Pixel devices through support for future Motorola flagships and foldables. The first compatible Motorola phones are expected in 2027, with plans eventually extending to the Razr Fold and Razr Ultra. The latter would become the first officially supported flip-style foldable for GrapheneOS.

The partnership is significant because GrapheneOS has historically depended heavily on Pixel hardware due to Google's strong security features, bootloader support and long update commitments. Motorola's upcoming devices are expected to adopt newer hardware security capabilities that bring them closer to GrapheneOS requirements. The project has also indicated that Motorola is actively cooperating with integration work, an important distinction from merely being technically compatible.

Broader device choice could make de-Googled Android considerably more accessible to privacy-conscious users who do not want a Pixel. The challenge will be software longevity. GrapheneOS needs manufacturers to provide firmware and security updates for many years, so Motorola's support policies will need to improve alongside its hardware.
