Fairphone's new Fairphone 6+ is reaching broader availability with upgraded internal hardware while preserving the modular design that remains the company's primary reason for existing. The phone uses Qualcomm's Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 with 12GB of RAM and retains compatibility with replaceable components including the battery, screen and camera modules.

Fairphone says more than half of the materials by weight are recycled or ethically sourced, while buyers receive a five-year warranty and software-support commitment extending to 2033. An alternative version using privacy-focused /e/OS is also available. The Fairphone still loses conventional specification comparisons against similarly priced mainstream flagships, particularly in camera performance, processing power and water resistance. That is almost beside the point.

Its value proposition is based on keeping one device operational for longer rather than replacing it every few years. Maintaining module compatibility with the previous generation strengthens that argument. Fairphone remains a niche manufacturer, but its influence can be larger than its market share if competitors adopt even part of its repairability philosophy.
