Gemini interface tests point toward chat filters, notifications and more organized AI workflows

Google is testing a substantial Gemini interface overhaul that could introduce chat filters, improved notifications and additional tools for managing an increasingly complicated collection of AI interactions. Gemini has rapidly expanded from a conversational assistant into a layer spread across Android, Pixel features, productivity software and web services.

That growth creates a usability problem: once users rely on AI for research, images, coding, planning and device actions, a single chronological conversation list becomes difficult to manage. Filters and better notification controls could make Gemini feel more like a productivity platform and less like an endless message history. The changes are still being tested and may not all reach the public in their current form. Their direction is nevertheless revealing.

Competition between AI assistants is shifting away from simply answering prompts toward managing ongoing work and context. Google has an advantage because Gemini sits inside Android and many widely used services, but that integration only becomes useful if users can understand where information lives and how to find it again.
