GrapheneOS and Motorola prepare privacy-focused Android expansion for 2027

GrapheneOS is preparing to expand beyond Google Pixel hardware through official support for future Motorola devices beginning in 2027. Planned compatibility is expected to include high-end Motorola phones and eventually foldables such as future Razr models. The project has historically relied on Pixel because Google's hardware meets demanding requirements involving verified boot, hardware-backed security and extended firmware support.

Motorola's cooperation therefore represents more than simply discovering that another phone happens to boot GrapheneOS. Upcoming hardware is expected to provide security capabilities closer to the project's standards, while direct manufacturer cooperation should simplify long-term maintenance. The expansion could broaden the audience for privacy-focused Android considerably, particularly among users who want stronger control over Google services but do not want to buy a Pixel.
