Fairphone's Fairphone 6+ is extending the company's repair-first smartphone strategy with upgraded internal hardware while preserving modular construction. The device uses Qualcomm's Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 with 12GB of RAM and allows owners to replace components including the battery, display and cameras with ordinary tools. Fairphone also emphasizes recycled and ethically sourced materials, a five-year warranty and software support extending into the next decade.
An alternative privacy-focused edition running /e/OS is available as well. Conventional specification comparisons still favor mainstream competitors in areas such as camera quality and outright performance, but that misses Fairphone's central proposition. Its value is measured partly by how long the same device can remain useful rather than how quickly it wins launch-week benchmarks. Maintaining compatibility with repairable modules also reduces the risk of parts becoming obsolete after one generation.
Fairphone remains a niche manufacturer, yet its broader influence could come from making repairability an increasingly difficult issue for larger brands to ignore.
