PocketBook Q makes e-reading pocket-sized again

PocketBook has revealed the PocketBook Q, a compact 5.84-inch E Ink reader designed around a smartphone-like form factor. The device is scheduled for a fuller public showcase at IFA 2026 in Berlin in early September. Its small size runs counter to the recent premium e-reader trend toward larger displays optimized for documents, comics and note-taking. PocketBook is instead betting that portability itself can become a selling point.

A phone-sized e-reader may appear redundant when every smartphone already supports reading applications, but E Ink offers clear advantages for long sessions, particularly outdoors, and removes the notifications and distractions of a general-purpose phone. The Q also taps into growing interest in focused single-purpose electronics as some consumers deliberately reduce time spent inside multifunction apps. Final pricing and regional availability will determine whether the concept reaches a broad audience.

The essential question is whether 5.84 inches feels conveniently compact or simply too small for comfortable reading.
