Luffu Link brings Fitbit founders back with LTE health and safety wearable

Fitbit co-founders James Park and Eric Friedman are returning to connected health hardware with Luffu Link, an LTE-enabled health and safety band announced this week. The device combines continuous sensing with voice logging, location awareness and the ability to contact trusted people when assistance is needed. Its approach differs from conventional smartwatches by emphasizing passive monitoring and safety rather than applications, notifications and a large display.

That narrower purpose may appeal to families looking for a connected device for children, older relatives or anyone who wants emergency communication without carrying a full smartwatch experience. LTE connectivity is crucial because it allows the band to function independently of a nearby phone in situations where safety features matter most. The founders' Fitbit history gives the project immediate credibility, but the health-wearable market is far more mature than it was when Fitbit first emerged.

Luffu will need accurate sensing, reliable connectivity and a clear privacy model to distinguish itself from Apple, Garmin, Samsung and increasingly capable low-cost wearables.
